Pearson: Things Will Change For Us

There were positives in the performance for Nigel Pearson despite another Barclays Premier League defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at King Power Stadium on Friday.
After cancelling out Harry Kane’s early goal through Leo Ulloa in the second half, what looked like a rousing comeback from the Foxes was ended thanks to Christian Erikse's free kick with 20 minutes left.

Throughout the game Jamie Vardy had a penalty appeal turned down, both Ulloa and Riyad Mahrez hit the woodwork and Wes Morgan almost bundled one over the line – but that second goal just wouldn’t come for City, as they switch focus to Hull City on Sunday.

“We find ourselves on the end of another very frustrating defeat,” Pearson told Foxes Player. “This situation is becoming hard for the players to deal with because of that. We played well, we created some really good chances again and you could argue that we’ve got to do better with the chances that we had, but it’s an indicator of the level that we’re playing at.

“The winning goal probably isn’t fitting of winning a game like today's. We’ve conceded early in the game, but played for the entirety of the game with a real endeavour and quality at times. That has put us into some really good situations, but we’ve been unable to maximise those situations.

“Clearly with how the first goal came about, you’ve got to be a bit more conscious of the interpretation of the offside ruling. I don’t like to moan about how decisions go during games, likewise with penalty decisions that we could have had and didn’t go our way.

“These things happen in games, but we still had opportunities. If we’d have got a draw out of it I think we’d have been still standing here disappointed. But to be talking about another defeat – I feel for the players.

“It’s really testing our fans’ resilience and ability to stay behind the team, but hopefully they can see the endeavour and commitment. If we keep replicating that then things will change for us.”
