Pearson To Assess Squad Fitness

A number of Leicester City players will face late fitness tests ahead of Wednesday’s Barclays Premier League visit of Chelsea to King Power Stadium, according to manager Nigel Pearson.
The Foxes could again be without striker David Nugent and winger Jeff Schlupp (both calf) ahead of the fixture with Jose Mourinho’s men, while Jamie Vardy is also a doubt with a foot problem having had a pain-killing injection ahead of the win at Burnley.

It is set to be a busy period for City, who by Saturday afternoon will have played three fixtures in eight days following clashes with Burnley, Chelsea and Newcastle United all in that space of time.

“The considerations that will go into selecting the team for this game will be exactly the same as any game,” said the Foxes boss. “We play on Wednesday night and have an early kick off on Saturday.

“We’ve picked up some injuries in games. The likes of Nugent and Schlupp will have to be assessed to see whether they are going to be available for this one (Chelsea) or the weekend. On top of that there’s Vardy’s situation, having an injection. We’ve got other knocks too.

“It’s not too bad getting players prepared for this game, but of course then it becomes the situation of we have a game played earlier on a Saturday having played on a Wednesday, but that’s how it is.

“It’s not a case of making a scene out of it. It is what it is. The considerations we will make will be based on what’s right for Leicester City.”

And while Leicester face title-chasing Chelsea on Wednesday evening, Pearson says his side will approach the game in the same manner they do with every other fixture as City go in search of a fifth straight victory.

Pearson added: “This is our next game and this is the game that the major part of our considerations are for. Of course we have to keep an eye on [the Newcastle game].

“It would be remiss of us not to do that because we work heavily in conjunction with the medical and sports science aspects of the Football Club.

“The considerations are about our players and the turnaround of games. I’m not too concerned about other people’s thoughts. We want to try and win this game.

“It’s always going to be hard against a side who have the qualities that they have, but it’s our next game. Why not look at it positively like we have every other game that we’ve played this season?”
