Ranieri And Mahrez: The Numbers

- The Foxes are unbeaten in the league under Ranieri this season

Following the news of a double nomination for Leicester City in the Barclays Premier League monthly awards, LCFC.com takes a look at some standout statistics for August. 

City boss Claudio Ranieri is up against Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini, Crystal Palace’s Alan Pardew and Swansea City’s Garry Monk for the August Manager of the Month award after a blistering start to the season. 

Alongside that, Foxes winger Riyad Mahrez is also up for the Player of the Month award after a sensational month. He faces competition from Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, Swansea duo Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis as well as Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov and David Silva. 

But why have the City pair been nominated? 

Under Claudio Ranieri the Foxes are unbeaten in four games and have scored a brilliant eight goals in the process. Back-to-back victories over Sunderland and West Ham gave them a perfect start before they showed their fighting spirit to come from behind and salvage 1-1 draws against Tottenham Hotspur and AFC Bournemouth. Including last season, City are now eight Premier League games without defeat, which is a joint-Club record, and have gone five Premier League away games without defeat – another Club record. Oh, and did we mention that City are third in the table? 

Mahrez’s nomination comes as he sits atop of the Premier League goalscoring charts with four goals – level with Gomis and Callum Wilson. That total is made even more impressive with Mahrez’s total minutes played just 292 – fewer than the other five nominees by some way. That means he has scored a goal every 73 minutes so far this season. Not bad. 

The winners will be announced on the morning of Friday 11 September, 2015.
