Ranieri: Jamie Is A Champion

- Leicester City face a top of the table clash with Manchester United at King Power Stadium on Saturday 

- Vardy can break the record against Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s former club 

- Ranieri has praised the marksman’s strong character and team work 

After equalling Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive Barclay’s Premier League games, manager Claudio Ranieri has backed Jamie Vardy to go one step further against Manchester United at King Power Stadium on Saturday. 

Vardy scored his 13th goal of the season last weekend when the Foxes’ beat Newcastle United 3-0 at St James’ Park to move them top of the table - a huge contrast to this time last year where they sat bottom with 10 points. 

The England international can break Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive league games when he faces his former club Manchester United in front of the Foxes faithful on Saturday, and Ranieri believes it is more than deserved. 

“I think Jamie now is a champion,” said Ranieri. “You have to take his confidence and character, for me he’s a champion he thinks more about the team and not about himself. 

“I think it’s good that Jamie has this idea [to break the record] maybe all his team-mates try to help him of course, but the main idea is the team and after, there is Jamie. 

“Now everything is okay but it’s important to see Jamie when everything is wrong. He’s a strong character because he’s come from non-league and that is a great experience. 

“I hope for him, for Leicester fans. Also for the record because sooner or later, somebody will break the record and I hope Jamie does it.”
