Ranieri: Show Your Best

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has challenged his players to make their mark in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night when the Foxes take on West Ham United at King Power Stadium. 

The boss has hinted at widespread changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Stoke City last time out, as he looks to give players an opportunity to ‘show their best’ in the third round clash with the Hammers. 

City progressed to the third round courtesy of a brilliant 4-1 away win over Bury, but they face a West Ham United side who have beaten Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City on the road so far this season.

“I will change a lot of players,” said Ranieri. “I think it will be more or less the same that played the last round of the cup. They are very good players and they deserve to continue to play for the match tomorrow. 

“Before the matches I look and everyone works very hard, but I can pick just 11. But there are also others who deserve to play. In the last round against Bury I changed a lot, and also tomorrow I will change a lot to give everybody the opportunity to show their best. 

“I don’t want to say now how we’ll play or the name of the players but I want the players to be very concentrated. Concentration is very important in football and all sport. 

“All the players are in good condition and I am a very lucky man because I can choose between 24, 25 players in good condition.” 

The man-of-the-match for the Foxes against Bury was youngster Joe Dodoo, who stunned Bury with a brilliant debut hat-trick to book a spot in the third round. 

He could again be involved against the Hammers in what would be his home debut as a first team player and the manager admits he has high hopes for the Academy graduate. 

He added: “He’s a young player who is very concentrated and focused on his job. I’ve spoken a lot with him and I think he’s got a very good future. He’s fast and when he shoots at goal, 80 per cent [of the time] he scores or hits the goal. That’s a good relationship with the goal. 

“He’s fast and he’s ambitious and he’s a very quiet boy. He’s still learning of course. I think he could play as a striker but also on the flank. For him it’s important now to understand and gain experience for his future. 

“It’s very important for him and very important for the Academy. I look at all the young players in our Academy to see if there is somebody I can bring up.”
