Ahead of Sunday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Arsenal, Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri provided an update on the fitness of three first team players.

Prior to last weekend’s 3-1 victory at Manchester City, Ranieri hinted that Daniel Amartey could be in contention to feature at Emirates Stadium.

While the Ghana international played 90 minutes for the Club’s Development Squad on Monday, the City boss revealed he will not be involved in Sunday’s game.

Matty James, who has been out of action since May 2015, continues his recovery from a knee problem, while Jeffrey Schlupp has made some positive progress with his hamstring injury, having returned to light training this week.

When asked whether Amartey could be in contention for Sunday’s clash, Ranieri said: “Not now, I think in the next match against Norwich he’s ready.

“Matty [James] is working inside with the physio and Jeff [Schlupp] has started to work outside. [he will] make a warm up with us and continue with his improvement. I think after Norwich he will come with me and start [working] with the first team.”

Meanwhile, Sunday’s opponents are set to be without Tomas Rosicky (thigh), Santi Cazorla (knee) and Jack Wilshere (calf/shin), but Ranieri believes the Gunners can field a talented team regardless of those injuries.

The City boss said: “I know very well Arsenal has so many fantastic players. They can make some magic.

“[Olivier] Giroud, [Mesut] Ozil and [Theo] Walcott – if I was Arsene [Wenger], [I could] say today on the goal play Walcott – he can change. It’s always a great team.”
