Rugby World Cup history was made at Leicester City Stadium, as the eyes of the rugby world fell back on the city on Tuesday.
After Argentina’s Pool C victory over Tonga on Sunday, the home of Leicester City Football Club made it four nations from four continents in three days, as Pool D rivals Canada and Romania took to the field for the second of three matches being played in Leicester.
Supporters of both teams and rugby fans from all over the UK contributed to another fantastic atmosphere on Filbert Way, as Romania staged the biggest comeback in the tournament’s 28-year history to overcome Canada by 17 points to 15.

Both teams headed into the match keen to put on a show with their tournaments coming to an end – Ireland and France having already secured the two quarter-final berths from Pool D – and neither disappointed in an entertaining encounter that thrilled spectators at LE2.
Canada, playing their final Pool D match, led 15-0 after scoring their second try of the contest five minutes into the second half. No side had ever recovered from such a deficit to win a Rugby World Cup match, but Romania succeeded, as two converted scores and a 78th-minute Florin Vlaicu penalty secured a stunning victory.

As two of the world’s emerging rugby nations, Romania and Canada were both underdogs to qualify from a pool that included European heavyweights Italy as well as France and Ireland, but both nations have won a host of admirers for the quality and spirit of their displays in the competition.Romania’s victory also gives ‘The Oaks’ an opportunity to secure automatic qualification for the 2019 tournament in Japan in their final Pool D match against Italy.
Leicester hosts its final 2015 Rugby World Cup match on Sunday when Argentina return to Filbert Way for their final Pool C match against Namibia. Los Pumas are all but assured of a place in the quarter finals, but will be looking to head into the last eight on the back of another victory, following their crucial success over Tonga.

Limited tickets for the match are still available from https://tickets.rugbyworldcup.com/ or from Leicester City Stadium (sub ticket office 2) on the day of the game.
