Ruthless Attacking Play Key For Beaglehole

Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole says his side’s clinical finishing played a key role in their 3-1 Barclays U21 Premier League victory over Fulham at Motspur Park on Saturday.

Jak McCourt’s superb 20-yard effort, coupled with Harry Panayiotou’s strike, saw the Foxes race into a two-goal lead after just nine minutes.
Fulham pulled one back through Patrick Roberts, but first-teamer Anthony Knockaert from the spot with 18 minutes to play.
“I’m delighted with the win, I really am,” Beaglehole told Foxes Player. “It’s a difficult place to come and they had a very experienced side out.
“I thought we started the game really well. We played a lot of positive football. We scored two goals early on in the game and probably could have scored another two. The first goal was a terrific strike from Jak McCourt and Harry Panayiotou’s touch on his chest and volley was equally as good.
“We had further chances, but you always feel that if they get one back at that stage, it’ll give them a lift, and they did. We were a bit unfortunate. They broke on us and scored.
“We went in at half-time only one goal to the good knowing that Fulham are probably going to come out at us after the break.
“In the second half we were a threat going forward and we defended really well. It was important to keep a clean sheet in the second half and we did.
“Young Ben Chilwell, who has had a great week after his side got to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup, then made a fantastic run forward. He got in the box, got brought down, was honest and got up and then got fouled again to earn us a penalty. Knockaert finished it well to put us 3-1 up.”
And Beaglehole, whose Under-21s are now five games unbeaten in all competitions, explained that striking first in the match helped his side settle early on against a talented Fulham outfit.
Beaglehole added: “Goals always give you a lift and scoring first is a big thing. We talk about it a lot. It’s not the be all and end all to score first, but it’s a big step forward.
“Sometimes people say that two-goal leads are a bit jittery because you get a bit comfortable. I thought we took our foot off it a little bit towards the end of the first half.
“We can’t do that at this level. We’re in the top league and all the teams have got good players in their sides. Every team is well organised and have a lot of experience. It’s a great opportunity for us to come up against good players and good coaches.
“They just keep going these lads. They never know when they’re beat. Myself and Nicky Eaden push them hard. We’ve had some young players coming in and I’m delighted with their attitude and their desire to play in that shirt.”
