Schlupp Waits On Scan Results
The winger may still join team-mate and Algeria star Riyad Mahrez for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea though, where the two nations have been drawn in the same group.
Speaking after the 1-0 win over Newcastle United, which Schlupp played no part in, Pearson stated: “He had a scan yesterday (Friday). It (his participation) depends on the results of the scan and the rules and regulations of the tournament, but our priority is our player.
“We’ll do what we need to do in terms of rehab, and if he goes and plays in the tournament, then that’s all well and good for him, if he doesn’t and he has to stay behind, then fine.
“It’s one of those where first and foremost, if he picks an injury up while he’s playing for us, then we’ll make sure we take the steps that we need to take to make sure that his welfare is put top of the list.”
There are several more injury concerns for the manager in midfield, as Esteban Cambiasso was withdrawn in the first half of the FA Cup victory over the Magpies, but the manager allayed concerns.
He added: “He came off because his thigh felt tight, and so really it’s a case of priorities. We don’t have too many options at the moment, so I’d rather withdraw him before it becomes a massive problem. We’ll see how he is in the next couple of days.
“Andy King is out, but should be back by next week. Dean Hammond is out, he’s got a tight calf so couldn’t play today and Danny Drinkwater picked up an injury against Liverpool, so we’ve got a few players to nurse through this period.”
