Retaining perspective and focus has rarely been a problem for this Leicester City side, so Kasper Schmeichel is in no doubt the Foxes will come back strongly following Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal.
Claudio Ranieri’s side saw a brave resistance with 10 men cruelly broken in the fifth minute of stoppage time at Emirates Stadium, as substitute Danny Welbeck struck late to give the Gunners a 2-1 win.
The defeat saw City’s lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League cut to two points with 12 games remaining, but Schmeichel sees no reason to be downhearted.
Leicester looked in good shape early in the second half, leading through Jamie Vardy’s penalty shortly before half-time, before the dismissal of full-back Danny Simpson for two cautions turned the tide in Arsenal’s favour. Theo Walcott levelled with 20 minutes to go before Welbeck’s late show winner.
Schmeichel said: “We have lost just three games this season so we are not going to get bogged down by this, just as we don’t get too ahead of ourselves when we win. It is a loss but we get on with it.
“We are a good team and had it been 11 versus 11 I think we would have gone on to get something, but it wasn’t to be.
“It is always frustrating when you concede in the last minute and when things go against you like they did today, it is disappointing but we have to just continue.”
Schmeichel performed superbly during City’s second-half rear-guard, marshalling his troops with authority and pulling off a string of fine saves – one late stop from Olivier Giroud particularly standing out.
And once the disappointment of conceding a late winner subsides, it will be a display the Foxes can look back on with pride, having played like genuine contenders throughout.
“We are a good team,” Schmeichel said. “People were probably getting ahead of themselves this week from the outside but we keep going. It is not the end of the world.
“We have bounced back before; we have the character in the camp. We will move on and we will have the same attitude as we do when we win.
“We just focus on us and we have as good a chance as anyone to have a very good season.”
