Schmeichel: I’ve Had Great Support

After a long awaited comeback against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel paid tribute to his family and team-mates for their support.
Before the weekend, the 28-year-old last played for the Foxes against Aston Villa in early December, but broke a metatarsal in training that ruled him out for over three months.

Having never before missed a league game for Leicester City since signing from Leeds United in the summer of 2011, Schmeichel admitted that being injured was a difficult period for him, but also that he was delighted to be back involved with the squad once again.

“I’m not going to lie, it was difficult,” Schmeichel told Foxes Player. “It’s the first long-term injury I’ve had in a long, long time and I’ve played a lot of games consecutively. It was hard, very hard, I’m not going to lie.

“It’s been a horrible few months. It’s been agonising to sit on the side lines and not be able to help team and not be a part of this Club. So from a purely selfish point of view I’m very happy to be back in the side again and I hope I can keep playing.”

The goalkeeper now travels with the Denmark national side for games against the USA and France that will cap his return to fitness, and he revealed that he’s grateful for the backing that he’s received during his absence.

He added: “I’ve had great support from my team-mates and staff and most importantly great support from my family – my wife and two kids – it’s been difficult but I’m really glad to be back.”
