Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel says he is Jamie Vardy’s biggest fan, and it’s hard not to see why after the striker’s outstanding start to the 2015/16 season.

City’s No.9 has scored 10 goals in 10 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Foxes and after netting the winner in the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, he also broke a Club record.

Vardy became the first Leicester City player in history to score in seven consecutive top-flight fixtures, also joining Premier League greats in the form of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright in achieving the same feat.

But it’s not just Vardy’s goalscoring exploits that have won over Schmeichel, who explained how he has been a fan of the striker ever since he signed from Fleetwood Town in 2012.

Speaking after the win over Palace, Schmeichel told Foxes Player HD: “It was tough out there, but the lads were fantastic as always, battled hard and who else but Jamie Vardy won the game for us.

“Personally from the day he stepped in the door I’ve been the biggest Jamie Vardy fan you can find. He epitomises everything I love about football – his aggression, his mentality and the way he works for the team.

“He’s added goals to his game and for me at the moment, on current form, he’s the best striker in the Premier League right now.”

Vardy’s relentless work-rate was evident again on Saturday and while his 59th-minute winner came courtesy of a fine through-ball from Riyad Mahrez, Schmeichel believes the Foxes frontman doesn’t necessarily need the perfect pass to muster up a goalscoring opportunity.

Schmeichel added: “He’s a dream to play with as a goalkeeper. If you’re trying to find spaces in behind or clearances, he’ll chase it down.

“He’s the type of player that will make maybe a bad ball into a good ball and a good ball into a great ball.

“For the whole team, he’s a catalyst – he sets us off. When he first came in he had a difficult first six months but he’s adjusted from stepping up from non-league to the Championship. He’s taken it in his stride.”
