Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel says he is enjoying being back in among the Leicester City squad as they continue their preparations for the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season.

The City shot-stopper linked up with the Foxes in Austria at their pre-season training schedule and played 45 minutes in their first pre-season friendly against Lincoln City on Tuesday.

While Schmeichel’s summer was longer than some of City’s stars due to international duty with Denmark, he says he is fully charged for the upcoming campaign.

“We’ve got a very short pre-season this year, so it’s all about getting back fit,” Schmeichel told Foxes Player HD while in Bad Radkersburg. “The others are a week or so ahead of me in terms of fitness, but I feel great, I feel sharp. It’s just good to be back in among the group again.

“I missed a large chunk of last season through injury, so when I was back I was fit and raring to go. I had internationals until 15 June so it wasn’t quite over for me, but it was nice just to relax for a few weeks.”

Schmeichel also went on to explain the difference in match preparation between outfield players and goalkeepers due to the motions that they’re put through over 90 minutes of football.

He added: “We have a different type of fitness to outfield players. Our fitness is very explosive with very quick reactions. It’s very hard on the joints especially. There’s a lot of impact when you land.

“For a goalkeeper it’s more about getting your timing right with positioning on through balls. You want to be getting into the rhythm again of getting minutes under your belt. It’s a case of getting used to how you interact with your players again, and how you move around your goal.”
