An upbeat Danny Simpson said Leicester City were unfortunate not to earn all three points from Saturday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

Despite dominating the second half against the 10-men Cherries, City couldn’t find the back of the net at King Power Stadium.

While frustrated not to win, Simpson was quick to draw positives from the game, in particular his side registering their fifth clean sheet of the campaign.

Simpson said: “Yes, we probably could have got the three points. Riyad [Mahrez] missed the penalty but we all told him to forget about that because he has been superb this season. It happens.

“Maybe we still had other chances but we have got our 40 points and it is another clean sheet, two on the bounce now. So we go again. There have been a lot of games in the last couple of weeks.

“We hit the post and just missed with a couple of chances. In recent games they have gone in. It was one of them, just not our day. You have them from time to time.

“We are still creating chances. It is two 0-0s, two clean sheets, two more points. We look at the positives.

“We have reached 40 points. Yes, we want to win every game but we didn’t lose and kept a clean sheet.”

With Claudio Ranieri’s initial target of 40 points achieved, Simpson says his side will now revaluate their aim for the season, but the right back is still unsure as to what heights City can reach.

He added: “We have got our 40 points now so we have a break to the next league game. I am sure we will all discuss it as a team and see what we can do.

There have been a lot of games in the last few weeks over the Christmas period. We have come through it and picked up a lot of points.

“I am not sure yet what we can achieve. It is a crazy league this season but we know if we prepare right and do what we can going into every game we want to win. That is our mentality, to win every game.

“If it doesn’t happen we go again. We have had a great first half of the season. We all want to do something special, me included, and we are getting better.”
