Leicester City defender Danny Simpson explained how his side’s fighting spirit proved key to earning a Barclays Premier League point against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Foxes once again exuded togetherness as they recovered from a goal down to draw 1-1, while having to play the final few minutes with 10 men.

Anthony Martial gave the hosts the lead at Old Trafford, before Wes Morgan’s second goal of the season got City on level terms 17 minutes in.

Leicester took the game to the Red Devils after the break but were reduced to 10 men late on after Danny Drinkwater received a second yellow card for a challenge on Memphis.

Reflecting on the clash, Simpson told Foxes Player HD: “It was a tough game – it’s Man Utd at Old Trafford. We knew the opportunity that we had. We know when they go 1-0 up here it’s tough, but credit to the lads – we got back into it.

“It was very important [to reply] after the way they started. We were thinking we could be in for a long day, but our togetherness, spirit and fight showed today.

“Even throughout the game we had a couple of half-chances, but we had to make sure we didn’t lose even though we wanted to win. We had to dig deep to make sure we didn’t lose.

“Everyone in Leicester, and probably the whole world, knew the challenge that we had today. We’ve never been in that situation before, especially at Old Trafford, so we dealt with it really well.”

Simpson went on to explain how Morgan’s header summed up the City captain perfectly, while he also credited Drinkwater for the excellent delivery that set up the goal.

“That’s the skipper for you,” Simpson added. “We know what he’s like when he defends corners and attacks corners and free kicks.

“It was a great delivery and you’ve got to attack it – Wes, Huthy and some of the other lads will do that.”
