U13s Reach Tournament Final
- The young Foxes beat E.F. Brunete, Wanda and Teulada Moraira and drew with Valencia in the group stages
- Defeating Nastic 4-3 on penalties in the last four, City eventually lost to Valencia in the final
- Lead Coach Inigo Idiakez explained just how happy he was with the performances of his young players
Leicester City’s Under-13s last month headed out to Alicante, Spain to participate in the Mibalon International Cup, and performed excellently to reach the final after some impressive results.
Running from 24-27 March and headed up by Lead Coach Inigo Idiakez, the young Foxes beat E.F. Brunete, Wanda and Teulada Moraira and drew with Valencia in the group stages, before defeating Nastic 4-3 on penalties in the semi-final.
And while City were eventually beaten in the final by Valencia, Idiakez explained just how beneficial the tournament proved to be for the Club’s youngsters.
Idiakez said: “We were the first English team to be invited to the tournament and it was a fantastic experience. Every team we played was really organised, with teams from La Liga also among them.
“We played six games over the space of two-and-a-half days so it was very tough for the players. Every player played a lot of minutes and the heat affected them a lot.
“There were some really good teams so we knew it would be difficult, but we played really well and worked really hard, so we were very happy with them.
“That’s exactly what we want for the boys. They have to go abroad and see different cultures, weather and atmospheres because at the end of that you grow as a player and as a person.”
