U18 Report: Leicester City 1 West Ham United 0

Leicester City’s Under-18s side registered their sixth win in seven Barclays U18 Premier League games after beating West Ham United 1-0 at Belvoir Drive on Saturday.

A solitary strike from Danny Rowe meant the young Foxes recorded their third win on the bounce on home soil.
City drew 0-0 with West Ham on the first day of the 2014/15 season and were in good form after registering two consecutive 5-0 victories on home soil over Norwich City and Fulham.
The visitors sat just a point behind City before the game after beating Norwich 1-0 on Saturday 1 November thanks to a goal from Jerry Amoo.
Matty Miles set up the first chance of the game when he won the ball in midfield and cut inside before playing in Rowe – the No.10’s low effort saved on the nine minute mark.
Captain Ben Chilwell then spread the ball well to Brandon Fox, but his powerful effort flew high and wide moments later.
Hamza Choudhury did well at the other end to stop Amoo from getting his shot off with a strong tackle on the edge of the box on the quarter-hour mark.
But the young Foxes took the lead with 22 minutes gone. Keenan King burst down the right flank and pulled the ball back for Rowe, who took a touch and fired it past Sam Howes in the West Ham goal.
The opposition could have equalised just after the half-hour mark after a long ball over the top found Amoo, but the winger rattled the cross bar and the ball was cleared.
City centre-half Cedric Kipre then met Kyle Bailey’s corner on 39 minutes, but his header was cleared – Leicester 1-0 up at the break.
West Ham came out fighting in the second half, with a free kick from Marcus Browne curling just wide of Max Smith-Varnham’s upright on 51 minutes.
Just a minute later, King looked to double his side’s lead, but his low drive was blocked after carrying the ball infield well from the left wing.
And King had another chance on 55 minutes. Rowe delivered the ball from the right and found the forward, whose effort was saved on the line well by Howes.
Long-range lobs from Bailey and Fox then looked to catch the goalkeeper off-guard – their impressive efforts going just wide of the target.
The young Hammers came into the game in the later stages of the match and carved out two good opportunities – both saved by City’s No.1.
The first saw Smith-Varnham tip a Djair Parfitt-Williams strike wide of the post before denying the No.11 again in injury time with a brave block, ensuring his side took all three points.
City face a trip to Fulham in their next league fixture on Saturday 29 November, having already beaten them by a convincing score line in their previous game.
