“I’m sure most first team footballers will remember those aspiring days of past years of the Youth Cup competition – it’s a special place in the youth footballing calendar.
“In terms of the approach against Wigan, it will be the same as all our other competitive fixtures. What it does provide is a different element to the league programme as it’s a knockout round so the match has to be settled on the evening.
“Irrespective of what the result is, it gives each player the taste of the challenge of having to win on the evening, knowing full well that if they’re successful they’ve got the potential of another exciting draw.”
