U18s Report: Arsenal 1 Leicester City 0

Leicester City’s Under-18s suffered a narrow 1-0 Barclays U18 Premier League loss to Arsenal at their Shenley Training Centre on Saturday.

The hosts struck the only goal of the game just after the hour mark, but the young Foxes weren’t without their chances, and piled on the pressure in the dying stages.
Despite mustering up several opportunities, it was Arsenal who went on to secure all three points, sending a resilient Leicester side home empty-handed.
The result came after City had made it to the FA Youth Cup Sixth Round courtesy of a fine at St. Mary’s on Thursday 5 February, and in turn set up a last-eight date with at King Power Stadium on Wednesday 25 February.
Likening the start of Saturday’s performance to the one against the young Saints, Under-18s manager Trevor Peake told LCFC.com: “We started slow again, just as we did against Southampton, but after the first five or 10 minutes, we had large chunks of possession and moved the ball around quite well.
"We had held the ball well, but we couldn’t turn our dominance into clear-cut chances, and we conceded in the second half.
“It was a cross that fell to the back post that we didn’t defend, and that proved to be the deciding factor in the match.
“It was a tough afternoon for us. We coped quite well and fielded a strong team. I expected us to cause some problems for us, which we definitely did.
“Sometimes the final cross or final finish isn’t there at the moment, but that’s certainly something to work on given the lads’ ages.”
City will play Arsenal again in the league in the coming weeks, but first host Brighton at Belvoir Drive on Saturday 21 February knowing a win could move them as high as third in the U18 Premier League table.
Peake added: “The league soon opens up into another second phase, but before that, we’ve still got four games left to play.
“We still have a chance to finish in the top four, which is what we set out to achieve at the start of the season, so we want to do well in our last few games.
“We’ve got one of the strongest defences in the league this season, and the six players in front of our back four put in an awful lot of hard work to help them out as well.”
