Leicester City’s Under-18s continued their impressive start to the Barclays U18 Premier League season on Saturday with a victory over Aston Villa at Bodymoor Heath.

The young Foxes recorded their sixth win of the season thanks to strikes from Kairo Mitchell, Admiral Muskwe and Josh Eppiah to retain third spot in the table.

The hosts started well and hit the post twice in the early stages before City fired themselves into the lead midway through the first period.

Some good work down the wing from Eppiah saw the forward deliver from the left. His cross could only be parried by the Villa shot-stopper into the path of Mitchell, who converted to make it 1-0.

Villa hauled themselves level 10 minutes into the second half, before the young Foxes restored their lead through Muskwe. The striker nodded in a pin-point cross from captain Michael Kelly to take his tally to a superb 12 goals in 2015/16.

City extended their advantage shortly after through Eppiah, who capped an excellent performance with a deserved goal 15 minutes from time to put his side 3-1 up.

The hosts did pull one back with five minutes to go, but a City held out, extending their unbeaten run to five U18 Premier League games.

After the victory, Under-18s manager Trevor Peake told LCFC.com: “We’ve played a lot better and maybe not won games this season, but we do look quite potent upfront. We’re creating limited chances, but our strike rate is great.

“Villa were on top for the first 20 minutes, hit the post twice and then we went ahead through Kairo Mitchell. Villa equalised after the break and were in the ascendancy, but we restored our lead through Admiral Muskwe.

“We eventually went 3-1 up through Eppiah. They came back at us and scored another goal and while it was a nervy at the end, we defended well and saw the game out. It’s good to put some space between us and Villa, because they’re a good outfit.”
