Leicester City’s Under-18s were denied all three Barclays U18 Premier League points on Saturday, as West Bromwich Albion struck late on to earn a 1-1 draw at Belvoir Drive.

The Foxes dominated proceedings in the first period and took the lead through Harvey Barnes, who had played for the Development Squad against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday evening.

And despite having a number of opportunities to extend their lead, West Brom proved difficult to break down for a second time, and they drew level with five minutes to play to earn a 1-1 draw.

“The game provided a good opportunity for players like Elliot Webber, Ethan Hodby, Kyle Gruno and Cal Templeton, who haven’t had too much football this season,” Under-18s manager Trevor Peake told LCFC.com.

“We went 1-0 up after 20 minutes through Harvey Barnes, who played half a game having played 45 minutes for the Under-21s on Friday.

“We were pleased with the way we played in the first half. 1-0 wasn’t really a true reflection – we should really have had a couple more goals given the tempo that we played at.

“West Brom came out at us a little more positive in the second half and we conceded in the 85th minute, which was unfortunate.

“We definitely deserved more out of the game, but it’s a good experience for the lads to be in positions like that. We’re on the learning curve, so for the lads that were involved, we hope they’ve learned from that.”
