U18s Report: Leicester City 3 Tottenham Hotspur 1

- A double from Harvey Barnes and a strike from Kairo Mitchell sealed the win

Leicester City’s Under-18s continued their fine goalscoring form by beating a talented Tottenham Hotspur outfit at Belvoir Drive in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday. 

Fresh off a convincing 7-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, the young Foxes started well and took the lead through midfielder Harvey Barnes, who scored a hat-trick against Wolves last time out. 

Striker Kairo Mitchell added a second shortly after to put his side 2-0 at half-time, before Tottenham pulled one back in the second period.

But City stood strong and restored their two-goal lead with 10 minutes to play through Barnes, who helped seal a second consecutive victory for his side. 

Speaking to LCFC.com after the game, Under-18s manager Trevor Peake said: “The result proved to be another pleasing one. The scoreline wasn’t as big as the Wolves game but playing Tottenham is always difficult. 

“They proved to be tough, but we started very brightly. We managed to find ourselves 2-0 up by half-time, with Harvey [Barnes] again playing another major role. He scored one and had a shot that rebounded to Kairo [Mitchell] to put us 2-0 up. 

“We then conceded from a set play, but Harvey came up trumps again 10 minutes before the end of the game. 

“Harvey’s had a great couple of weeks, scoring a hat-trick against Wolves, winning a penalty for the Under-21s against Sunderland and he scored twice against Spurs!”
