A brace from forward Layton Ndukwu helped Leicester City’s Development Squad to a victory over Cardiff City in a friendly fixture at Belvoir Drive on Friday afternoon.

The Foxes hosted Cardiff at the Club’s Category 1 training facility, giving Under-21s manager Steve Beaglehole the chance to get a good look at some of the younger talent that is making the step up into his squad this season.

With an international break coming up, City’s Under-21s benefited from some valuable game time following their 1-1 Barclays U21 Premier League draw with Everton last time out.

It took just half an hour for Leicester to break the deadlock. Keenan King struck the post and Ndukwu, who played just under an hour against Everton on Monday, was on hand to turn in the rebound.

There was plenty of positive attacking play from the Foxes, who eventually doubled their lead with 15 minutes to play. It was Nduwku who was again on the scoresheet, this time nodding in from a corner to seal the win for his side.

Reflecting on the victory, Beaglehole told LCFC.com: “It was a good exercise for our players. Cardiff brought quite an experienced side. We’ve had a couple of players head out on loan over the last few days so we pushed the younger ones up today.

“We’ve looked at them and it was a good response, because we were a threat going forward. We scored two good goals and could have scored more.

“We also got a clean sheet, so overall it was pleasing to see some of the younger players step up and get the job done.”

CITY: Smith-Varnham, Trialist, Chilwell (c), Miles, Moore, Kipre, Rowe, Fox, King, Ndukwu, Olukanmi
