U21s Preview: Leicester City vs. Everton

Read a match preview on the Barclays U21 Premier League fixture between Leicester City and Everton at King Power Stadium on Monday 24 August, 2015 (7pm kick-off).

Leicester City’s Development Squad continue their 2015/16 Barclays U21 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Everton at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes were beaten 2-0 last time out against a Norwich City side that fielded a number of first teamers at Colney Training Centre on Monday.

Steve Beaglehole’s outfit take on an Everton team that recovered from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Merseyside rivals Liverpool in Southport on Wednesday evening.

City and Everton met three times last season, most notably in the Premier League International Cup Quarter-Final – a clash that the Foxes eventually won on penalties.

Speaking after the defeat to Norwich, Development Squad coach Nicky Eaden said: “You could say that Norwich dominated the first 20 minutes, but other than that it seemed to be a pretty even game. On chances it was evenly balanced.

“In the second half we were playing into the wind. Everything seemed to be skipping through in the first half, but in the second half it held up a bit more, so it was difficult to build attacks.

“Their second goal should have knocked us back a bit, but even after that, we had another one-on-one, but we failed to hit the target.

“We also had a couple of crosses flashed in and we looked dangerous from set-plays, so we threatened until the final whistle.”

Australian youth international defender Callum Elder enjoyed a good start to the 2014/15 season for the Development Squad before a beneficial loan spell at League 2 outfit Mansfield Town.

The talented left back, who can also play in the centre of defence, played 21 times for the Stags last campaign, helping them secure their League 2 status.

Elder played for both the first team and Development Squad this pre-season, also appearing for the Club’s Under-21s in their Barclays U21 Premier League fixtures against Manchester United and Norwich city this term.

An intelligent defender who works the flanks well, Elder will be the one to keep an eye on when Everton visit King Power Stadium on Monday.
