U21s Preview: Liverpool vs. Leicester City

Read a match preview on the Barclays U21 Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Leicester City at Chester’s Swansway Stadium on Monday 4 May, 2015 (4.15pm kick-off).

Leicester City’s Development Squad continue their enthralling Barclays U21 Premier League campaign with a testing trip to Liverpool on Monday.

The Foxes were edged out 3-2 in extra-time in the semi-finals of the Premier League International Cup at Manchester City last time out, despite putting a performance worthy of winning the game.

Steve Beaglehole’s outfit have lost just once in their last 10 U21 Premier League fixtures, having beaten Liverpool 3-1 during that run last month.

Currently in fourth position, a victory on Monday could see City close the gap on league-leaders Manchester United, who sit five points above the Foxes.

Liverpool’s Under-21s head into Monday’s fixture on the back of a 3-1 derby victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Thursday.

The Reds recovered from a goal down to beat their Merseyside rivals thanks to a double from Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo’s late penalty.

That triumph proved to be Liverpool’s third in their last six games, having beaten West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur and lost to Fulham, Southampton and the Foxes in that space of time.

They now occupy second spot in the division and if they claim all three points on Monday, Liverpool could move top of the league.

Striker Harry Panayiotou continued his excellent goalscoring form on Thursday evening, netting a brace in his side’s Premier League International Cup Semi-Final defeat to Manchester City.

Panayiotou’s haul now stands at 11 goals his last 10 games in all competitions, including four doubles in that fine run of form.

In that time, he scooped March’s Barclays U21 Premier League Player of the Month award, as well as becoming the first ever Leicester City player to score an international hat-trick when he netted a treble for St. Kitts and Nevis against Turks and Caicos.

Now hoping to fire his side within touching distance of top spot in the U21 Premier League table, Panayiotou will be the man to keep an eye on on Monday afternoon.
