U21s Report: Manchester City 4 Leicester City 2

Leicester City’s Development Squad suffered their first defeat in nine games in all competitions at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday.

A hat-trick from defender Angelino and a strike from Brandon Barker saw the Citizens storm into a 4-0 Barclays U21 Premier League lead at their Academy Stadium.
First-teamer Anthony Knockaert pulled one back for Steve Beaglehole’s outfit before winger Joe Dodoo added a second for City four minutes from time.
The Foxes weren’t without their chances, with Jack Barmby going closest early on with a 25-yard effort that had to be tipped behind by goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
City shot-stopper Adam Smith then denied Jose Angel Pozo with a good save, but within six first-half minutes, the hosts were 2-0 up.
First, Angelino found the back of the net from a tight angle, before Barker cut in from the wing and fired a low drive past Smith.
An opportunity to pull one back before the break fell to Barmby, but Gunn was again wise to the wideman’s effort.
Patrick Vieira’s men added a third just seven minutes into the second half through Angelino, before the Spanish full-back sealed his treble on 73 minutes.
Well-taken goals from Knockaert and Dodoo threatened a Leicester comeback, but Man City held on to secure their first win against the Foxes in three attempts this campaign.
The Foxes next host Liverpool in the U21 Premier League at King Power Stadium on Monday 13 April (7pm kick-off).
