U21s Report: Tottenham 0 Leicester City 0

Leicester City’s Development Squad battled to a deserved Barclays U21 Premier League point after drawing 0-0 with Tottenham Hotspur at their training ground on Monday.

The young Foxes went closest in the second half when Hamza Choudhury fired straight at Jordan Archer, while Spurs’ best chance came when Emmanuel Sonupe hammered the City crossbar in the first period.
Steve Beaglehole’s men went into the clash having beaten a tough Everton side last time out, and came up against another fierce opponent in the form of Tottenham Hotspur.
First-team defender Matt Upson did well to quash much of their threat, playing 90 minutes in the draw in his recovery from a foot problem, while right-back James Pearson captained the side.
Facing an outfit who sat third in the league, City started well. Jak McCourt curled a free kick into the box which Spurs struggled to clear. The loose ball fell to Harry Panayiotou, who dragged his shot wide under pressure on 12 minutes.
Jonny Maddison then denied Ruben Lamerias, saving with his feet while one-on-one with the attacker – a fine stop from the City goalkeeper.
Sonupe mustered up his chance just after the half-hour mark. The Spurs No.7 raced down the wing, cut inside and hammered a shot onto the cross bar.
A minute later, young winger Brandon Fox controlled the ball well and fired a goal-bound shot from 25 yards into the palms of shot-stopper Archer as City threatened.
Goalless at the break, Beaglehole replaced Fox for Choudhury, who acted as a shield in front of the defence and did well to break down the opposition’s midfield throughout the second half.
McCourt – a threat from set-plays all game – curled a 25-yard free kick towards goal three minutes after the break, only for the ball to fly inches past Archer’s upright.
Maddison then turned away efforts from Nathan Oduwa and Sonupe as Spurs looked to claim all three points, while at the other end, Panayiotou fired from range to sting the palms of Archer as the game started to open up.
Ben Chilwell, who halted much of the Spurs play down the wing, fought well to carve out City’s best chance. The impressive left-back won the ball in midfield and released Joe Dodoo down the left wing. Dodoo cut inside and squared the ball to Choudhury, who forced Archer into a low save with 15 minutes to play.
Maddison denied Oduwa late on, tipping the forward’s shot – which looked destined for the bottom corner – round the post and out for a corner.
After clearing their lines, City defended resiliently in the late stages, securing a well-earned point that, for now, moves them up to seventh in the U21 Premier League.
