Upbeat Simpson Eyeing Spurs Scalp

A win against Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays Premier League on Boxing Day could be just what Leicester City need to kick-start their season according to Danny Simpson.
The defender has impressed on the right side of the Foxes’ defence in recent weeks, and insists that the mood remains good as the team fight to find the remedy for their poor run of recent form.

A win against Spurs would put them within touching distance of rivals Hull City ahead of a trip to the KC Stadium on 28 December. “We’re looking forward to it,” Simpson told Foxes Player.

“Obviously everyone else is talking about this run that we’re on, but we’re looking forward to it and we’re positive. “The camp is still upbeat and everything has been going well. We just know it’s only a matter of time before we do get a win and three points on the board.

“I think the fans watching can see the performances [aren’t bad], especially in the last few games. I think we should have got something at Aston Villa. Manchester City are a great team, we made it difficult for them and we played well. At West Ham we dealt with their main threat and they’re on fire.

“We need to get rid of mistakes, but overall on the performances we’re thinking ‘just keep doing what you’re doing’.

“Players that I’ve spoken to about the run and players I’ve played against have said they’re surprised. They’ve said we’re doing all right and can’t understand how we’ve not won for so long.

“It’s got to come, and if it comes on Boxing Day, hopefully it can kick us on to put lots of points on the board in a short space of time.” Simpson knows just what a quality side the visitors have, but he’s banking on the support of the Blue Army to help push the Foxes over the line.

He added: “They’ve got some great players. They can play a number of players at the start. They can bring quality off the bench too. Harry Kane is on fire, but we know about them and we know who to watch and how they’re going to play.

“We need to concentrate on our game, make it difficult for them, get the fans behind us like against Manchester City and hopefully we can get the three points.

“The fans, despite the run, the fans have been class. I know it’s been hard, as they’ve been used to seeing the team winning pretty much every week last year, and I understand that’s frustrating, but stick with us, and when teams come here, make it difficult, be the 12th man and hopefully we can reward them with points.”
