A modest Jamie Vardy insisted that he was happier to help his side earn a Barclays Premier League point against Manchester United, than break Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s goalscoring record.

The Foxes battled to a 1-1 draw against Louis Van Gaal’s outfit at King Power Stadium on Saturday evening, and it was that man Vardy who was again on the scoresheet.

Leicester City’s No.9 latched onto an excellent pass from Christian Fuchs before driving a shot low past David De Gea to become the only player in Premier League history to score in 11 consecutive games.

That goal saw Vardy take his total to 14 goals in 14 league games this season and while he was undoubtedly happy to become a Premier League record breaker, the striker was just pleased to help his side to a draw.

“I’m delighted to get the goal but the most important thing was the performance from the boys,” Vardy told Foxes Player HD.

“We thought we gave a very good performance and we’re a bit disappointed with how we conceded the goal. Overall, a point is probably a fair result.”

Vardy said he wasn’t overwhelmed by the prospect of breaking Manchester United legend Van Nistelrooy’s record after the game, which ended 1-1 after Bastian Schweinsteiger netted for the Red Devils.

Vardy continued: “At the end of the day, if I let my nerves show, it’s going to affect my performance, so as soon as I step over that white line, I’m only concentrating on the team and how we perform. If my performance is good enough, then it’s helping the team as well.”

Such has been Vardy’s form this season, Van Gaal switched his defence to a back three consisting of Paddy McNair, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind, with wing backs on each flank in the form of Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young.

Perhaps a system specifically employed by the Manchester United manager to halt Vardy, the striker added: “To be fair, I thought they were playing four at the back at the start – the standard right back, two centre halves and a left back.

“But as the game went on towards the end, I could see that they were playing three centre halves. I think that just shows that we could have hurt them a lot on the counter attack and they wanted to stifle that out.”
