Striker Jamie Vardy stressed how important it was for Leicester City to be opportunistic upfront following the 1-1 Barclays Premier League draw with Manchester United.

Vardy’s came from a deadly counter attack that started from a Manchester United corner. Kasper Schmeichel collected the ball and immediately released defender Christian Fuchs down the right flank.

The Austrian burst forward and delivered a no-look through ball into the feet of City’s No.9, who fired in his 14th goal of the season.

Manchester United still boast the best defence in the league following the game – they have conceded just 10 times in 14 games – and Vardy was just happy his side managed to breach such a defiant back line.

“That’s what we’re all about,” Vardy told Foxes Player HD. “Kasper has gone and got the ball, he’s rolled it straight out to Christian [Fuchs] and one pass later we’re in their box. I’ve managed to hit it across De Gea and it’s gone in the back of the net.

“You have to realise that there’s not a lot of chances coming your way. Once you get them, you need to be taking them, otherwise you’re going to get punished yourselves.

We’ve managed to take one, but we’re a bit disappointed with the way we conceded the goal. Obviously we’ll be working on that on the training ground this week. If we’d have gone in at half-time with a clean sheet, then who knows, we could have got the three points.”

Bastian Schweinsteiger hauled the Red Devils level on the stroke of half-time and while substitute Leonardo Ulloa had a good chance to win the game for the Foxes, the Argentine saw his low strike saved by David De Gea, who earlier denied Riyad Mahrez.

“I think it’s a difficult chance,” Vardy said of Ulloa’s opportunity. “He’s cut inside but the defender has stayed with him all the way.

“He’s managed to get a snapshot off just before the defender has got the tackle in, and De Gea has stood up long enough to make himself big, and he’s saved it. On another day, it might have gone in.”
