Vardy: We Can Give Any Team A Game

- The Premier League’s top scorer tells Leicester City fans to keep enjoying the ride 

Jamie Vardy is expecting a tough battle against Manchester City in their top of the Barclays Premier League table meeting on Saturday but insists that Leicester City are capable of coming out on top. 

The Foxes sit three points clear of their second placed opponents heading into the fixture at Etihad Stadium, but the home side will be favourite as they look to leapfrog Claudio Ranieri’s side with a victory. 

Leicester have proven to be a tough nut to crack this season though, with only two defeats – the fewest in the league. Add to that a run of five clean sheets in the last six and the Premier League’s top scorer leading the attack, and it all shapes up for an exciting match. 

The last time the two sides met was in December, when they fought to a goalless draw at King Power Stadium, and speaking ahead of the game, Vardy made no secrets about Leicester’s ambitions to win this time around. 

“It’s going to be tough, we know that,” he told Foxes Player HD. “They’ve got absolutely world class players but we know that we can give any team a game and we’ll be trying our hardest to come home with the three points. 

“It doesn’t matter how they play because they’ll come out, attack teams and expect to win. It’s up to us to show that we’re not just going to be pushovers and put in a performance that deserves the victory if we can get it. 

“I think that day (the 0-0 draw in December) we gave them a bit too much time on the ball and let them play their game instead of us doing what we know best. So we’ll be going to the Etihad with a different mentality and hopefully put in a performance that brings us the points.” 

Vardy has been in the headlines this week for his stunning opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Liverpool – a half volley from 30 yards that dipped brilliantly over Simon Mignolet. 

And while he appreciates the recognition, he was keen to point out that being talked about is only an indication of how well the team are doing as a whole. 

He added: “It’s been brilliant. Obviously we had a day off to recover then we’ve been back in training looking forward to this game. I’ve been at home so it’s all right, I’ve not really been asked about it. But I’ve seen people talking about it on Twitter and social media and it’s nice to be talked about and it was a decent goal. 

“It’s the same as it’s always been this season. It just shows that not only me, but the team are doing well. 

“There’s no pressure at all. Nobody gave us a chance at the start of the season so we’re just enjoying it and taking each game as it comes. 

“[All we’re thinking about is] The next game. That’s it. Man City, it’s as simple as that. Hopefully if we get the victory there it’ll be the same the week after and we can concentrate on Arsenal. 

“If I could say anything [to the fans] it’d be let’s just carry on enjoying the ride that we’re on.”
