Walsh: Blue Army Have A Part To Play

Leicester City legend Steve Walsh has called on the Blue Army to continue their phenomenal support as the Foxes pursue Barclays Premier League survival.

Nigel Pearson’s men entertain Swansea City on Saturday knowing a convincing win could not only move them off the bottom of the table, but out of the drop-zone.
It would be a huge step for Leicester, who have occupied 20th position in the Premier League since November.
But fearless back-to-back wins over West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion, roared on by the Foxes faithful, have handed City a massive top-flight survival boost as they head into the seven final games of the season.
With five of those fixtures still to come at home, Walsh told Foxes Player: “King Power Stadium has got to be a fortress. It was last season – there’s no doubt about that. Home form is going to be very important.
“Although the fans don’t realise it, they play a huge part in helping you on the pitch. I remember in my playing days, there were plenty of times we came back from games where we were down and out – they really helped us get back in the game.
"It’s been a taster for the fans this season. We want Premier League football, as does everybody at the Club. What the Club does for people in the community and the charities is phenomenal. I’d love us to stay up for the fans for how well they’ve backed us.”

The Club pledged to reward those fans, who helped achieve a record-breaking Season Ticket sign-up in 2014/15, with a price freeze on Season Tickets for the 2015/16 campaign.

Walsh, who was well known for his ‘never-say-die’ attitude in a Foxes shirt, notched up 449 appearances for City between 1986 and 2000. He netted 49 times for the Club and lifted the League Cup for Leicester 1997.
Stressing the significance of Saturday’s superb 3-2 victory over West Brom, Walsh continued: “It was a huge game, like every game was in the Premier League. Every game is a cup final, and every point is a bonus.
“We’re in a great position again now. You can see that the team have some confidence. We’ve got some great fixtures left to play.
“I’ve always said we’ve got a better run-in than a lot of the other teams around us, and we’ve got to face some of them still, so it’s going to be a very interesting finale. Fingers crossed, we can pull through.”

And throughout the season – win, lose or draw – the manager and his players have continued to exude belief, according to Walsh.
“Nigel Pearson’s kept his men positive,” he added. “A lot of teams would have crumbled by now. They’ve kept that self-belief, and that’s what pulled them through last year.
“Don’t forget, there’s been a few new additions to this team, and there’s been different game plans against different teams – you’ve got to have those tactics.
“Strong-minded players, staff and managers can only come through situations like this. It’s going to be a very nervy period for the players every time they play a game. They’ve just got to concentrate on the next game against Swansea City.”

Walsh shares an insight into what it is like to perform under pressure in England’s top-flight in his new book ’50 Shades of Blue’, which provides an in-depth look at the former City man’s career at Filbert Street.
“I brought it out to share all the different stories and inside information with the fans of what happened there and then,” said Walsh. “Also, there’s a little bit about why I left Leicester – I think the fans deserve to know that – and how life treats you after football.
“I felt it was a good time to bring my book out. It was named ’50 Shades of Blue’ because I’m 50 and I’m a Blue – that’s the thought behind that!”
