Rudkin Pleased With Result

Posted on: Thu 08 Dec 2011

After steadying the ship last Saturday with a fine 2-0 win at Stoke, making up for their opening-day defeat by Crewe, the City Academy now take on Ipswich Town this Saturday (12pm) at Belvoir Drive.

Academy manager, Jon Rudkin, hopes to see the lads move forward against the weekend's visitors and keep up the progress shown in that previous game.

"On reflection of the game last Saturday it was a pleasing result, but more importantly a pleasing performance and ironically the result did not reflect the standard of our performance.

Our coach, Steve Beaglehole, spoke very highly of the way we defended, recovered possession and the transition to our attacking play.

"Now we have a very difficult game, a very testing game, against Ipswich, who will be very strong and it will be a really good opportunity for the lads to get back-to-back results. Most importantly is to try and build on the level of performance of last week and really now continue with that consistency."

There are a number of City's Academy side missing on international duty as Joey Jones and Connor Brennan both travel with the Northern Ireland Under-17s to play in Slovakia.

The win over Stoke helped settle things down for the side, something that Rudkin accepts is part of the game:

"The results at youth level are going to sometimes be up and down and we as coaches and developers have to accept that, but the improvements we are looking for are the type of improvements we saw last Saturday."
