Steve Walsh

Posted on: Mon 10 Sep 2007

Steve Walsh will be forever revered as the player whose goals fired City back into the top flight of English football. Walsh scored twice in the 1994 Division One play-off final at Wembley to sink East Midland rivals Derby County and give Leicester City supporters Premier League football for the first time.

It is difficult to decide how best Walsh, who was loved by the City faithful for his full-bloodied commitment, will be best remembered. Was he a rugged stopper or swashbuckling striker, a coolly commanding captain or the reckless recipient of seven red-cards between October 1986 and November 1992?

Foxes fans will remember him as a red-rag to Steve Bull, the man who led the Rams to slaughter and quite simply a brilliant servant to their club. Walsh made 430 appearances for City between June 1986 and September 2000 scoring 62 goals.
