Patrick Kisnorbo has dedicated Tuesday evening's rearranged Carling Cup second round victory over Nottingham Forest to team-mate Clive Clarke.
After events at The City Ground three weeks ago, the Foxes opted to gift their East Midlands rivals a 'free' goal at kick-off with goalkeeper Paul Smith running unchallenged from the centre-circle before tapping the ball home for a surreal opener.
However, the visitors hit back with two goals in as many minutes late on from substitute Richard Stearman and club captain Stephen Clemence to ensure a third round date at Villa Park next Wednesday.
The Australian international said: "Our thoughts have been with Clive over the past few weeks and the win last night was for him.
"Under normal circumstances he would have been involved on the night but his absence just made us all the more determined to win the match."
But Kisnorbo had no complaints about the 'gift' and applauded the decision.
"Forest didn't have to abandon the initial game but out of courtesy they did and as a club we wanted to repay that gratitude," he added.
"We thought it was only fair for them to have that 'free' goal - the one that they had from the abandoned game.
"There were certainly no complaints from us after the manager told us what was going to happen. It just made us more eager and hungry to win the match, which in the end we did."
City were trailing 2-1 late on in the game despite Alan Sheehan's trademark free-kick but the defender always had faith in his team-mates.
"We stuck together as a team and ground it out. We rode the storm when we needed to and eventually came away with a hard-earned win.
"Everyone did their bit and it never matters how you get back into a game as long as it's effective."
However, Kisnorbo has insisted that the focus is now firmly on Saturday's Championship clash against Charlton Athletic at the Valley.
"Of course, we'll enjoy this win but we must concentrate on Saturday's game now. It will be another hard match but we can certainly go into it with confidence high."
