Kettering Town 1-4 Leicester City
Two goals from new signing Nicky Adams and one each for Matty Fryatt and DJ Campbell helped Leicester City record a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Kettering Town at Rockingham Road on Saturday afternoon.
The result was never in doubt following Fryatt's early opener and the pre-season friendly again provided the majority of Nigel Pearson's first team squad with some further match fitness and practice ahead of the big kick-off on August 9.
The Poppies were the first to show when Brett Solkhon headed over the bar from Daryll Tayor's right wing cross.
But the Foxes hit back on four minutes with the opener.
Fryatt capitalised on a defensive mix-up and looped his header over the advancing Lee Harper much to the sizeable travelling support's delight.
Fryatt just failed to latch on to Joe Mattock's flick in the ninth minute but the visitors doubled their lead three minutes later.
After some neat build-up play, Barry Hayles fed Mattock, whose teasing cross from the left flank was headed home by Adams for his side's second of the contest.
Paul Henderson gathered under pressure from Taylor's ball across the face of the goal before Fryatt's centre to Hayles at the other end was blocked by Solkhon for a corner.
The home side pulled a goal back on 20 minutes when Solkhan ghosted in unmarked to head home David Galbraith's corner from close range.
Gareth Seddon fired wide in the 25th minute after a fine burst of energy forward by Jean-Paul Marna.
A last ditch header from Taylor on 28 minutes thwarted Lloyd Dyer after some fine play by Fryatt and Adams.
But a minute later Adams netted his second and City's third when he drilled the ball home past Harper from the edge of the area.
Solkhon volleyed over in the 40th minute then Galbraith's glancing header drifted narrowly wide then Seddon fired against the post on 43 minutes
Adams almost grabbed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time but after being put clean through by Fryatt, saw his attempted lob just diverted by 'keeper Harper.
Manager Pearson made four changes at the break with Conrad Logan, James Chambers, Radostin Kishishev and Campbell replacing Henderson, Kerrea Gilbert, James Wesolowski and Hayles respectively.
Solkhon headed over the bar on 53 minutes but the Foxes made it 4-1 two minutes later when Fryatt fed Campbell and he lobbed Harper from 12-yards out, with the ball nestling into the far corner.
On 58 minutes, Adams and Fryatt made way for Max Gradel and Steve Howard.
Dyer just failed to connect with Matt Oakley's through ball on the hour then Logan got down well to deny Chris Beardsley in the 63rd minute.
Harper saved from Gradel a minute later before Ashley Chambers replaced Dyer on 66 minutes.
Harry Worley replaced Liverpool loanee Jack Hobbs in the 74th minute then Ashley Chambers curled his effort narrowly over the bar as the Foxes looked to distance themselves even further.
Oakley made way for Andy King on 78 minutes before Gradel curled one just wide of the left hand upright.
However, it remained 4-1 at the full-time whistle.
City are back in pre-season action on Tuesday evening when they entertain Championship outfit Birmingham City at the Walkers Stadium. (7.45pm).
