Double Delight For Fryatt

Posted on: Sat 09 Aug 2008

Matty Fryatt is confident that there are "good times ahead" at the Walkers Stadium after his double steered the Foxes to a comfortable 2-0 over MK Dons on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old striker bagged a goal in either half to help City record their first opening day victory since 2002.

He said: "From a personal and team point of view it was a great start.

"I managed to get two goals and we kept a clean sheet as well. There was a lot of energy amongst the team and it was a performance the fans needed to see.

"There are good times ahead, that's for sure."

Fryatt's first came from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the box by Sean O'Hanlon.

"I just managed to nick the ball away from the defender and he caught me a little bit late.

"It was a definite penalty and the referee made the right decision.

"I had no hesitation in taking the penalty; I have been feeling confident throughout pre-season and I was just glad I managed to put it away."

His second came late on after some fine work by man-of-the-match Max Gradel.

"I did miss a few chances but was just pleased to get in the positions and fortunately I managed to tuck another one away.

"I was delighted because I don't think I've managed two for Leicester in a game before."

Fryatt is now hoping to take his form into Tuesday night's Carling Cup First Round clash against Stockport County at the Walkers Stadium.

However, he knows that he faces stiff competition for a starting berth.

"There is plenty of competition for places up front with the likes of Steve Howard, Paul Dickov, DJ Campbell, Barry Hayles and myself and so you can't afford to take anything for granted," Fryatt added.

"But I want to keep playing and want the team to keep winning.

"Back-to-back wins is something we haven't done for a while but if we approach the game with the same energy, commitment and passion then I'm confident that we'll get through to the next round."
