Fryatt Hails Howard Partnership

Posted on: Wed 27 Aug 2008

Goal hero Matty Fryatt believes his strike partnership with Steve Howard is continuing to go from strength-to-strength.

Both forwards were again on the scoresheet in the 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, with Fryatt now totalling four goals from three starts while Howard has two.

And the 22-year-old hitman is enjoying their double act. He said: "Our relationship is going well; there is a good understanding between us and long may it continue.

"I thought Steve played particularly well today, his all-round play was excellent and he seemed on top of his game.

"There is competition for places up front and that's what keeps you on top of your game."

After a tentative start against Rovers, Howard's opener proved vital according to Fryatt.

He added: "I thought the team seemed a bit leggy early on but Steve's goal lifted us.

"It wasn't the best game on the eye but we fought well and managed to grind out the three points.

"It still went to the wire but a win is a win and I'm delighted with the start we've made to the season.

"To score two goals with my head was also a bonus and fortunately I was in the right place at the right time."

The Foxes are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Premier League Fulham in the second round of the Carling Cup.

City will go into the game as underdogs but Fryatt is convinced his side can secure an upset - and he wants to be a part of it.

"I want to be involved in every game but it's up to the manager who he picks.

"But whatever team we field, I'm sure we'll more than hold our own.

"It's a massive game for us and we want to win it. We want to keep our unbeaten run going."
