Foxes Waste No Time In Scoring For The Environment

Posted on: Fri 24 Oct 2008

Leicester City are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint the full distance by working in partnership with official business partner Bakers Waste Services of Leicester.

The Foxes are set to become the first football club in the country that has an Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to UKAS ISO 14001 standard.

With Bakers Waste's assistance, the club are already recycling cardboard, paper, glass, grass cuttings, plastic, metal and light bulbs in an attempt to reduce landfill waste.

And supporters can continue to help City work towards this prestigious accreditation by using the recycling facilities around the Walkers Stadium as waste will be the core focus in reducing environmental impact.

Director Malcolm Stewart Smith, who has been heavily involved in the latest phase of the energy-saving project, said: "This is a huge step for a football club of our size and hopefully the measures we are taking will increase our energy-saving by another 40 per cent.

"This is the first in a series of green initiatives we are embarking on over the next six months to reduce our carbon footprint.

"The club is conscious of the need to reduce waste and recycle wherever practicable in an effort to help the environment."
