Carling Cup Draw Details

Posted on: Fri 12 Jun 2009

Leicester City will discover their opening Carling Cup opponents when the first round draw is made on Tuesday, June 16

The first round of the competition is divided into North and South sections. Each section will be divided equally into a pot of seeded clubs and a pot of unseeded clubs. Clubs' rankings depend upon their finishing position in the 2008-09 season.

However, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough receive a bye into the second round and will enter alongside Premier League teams not involved in European competition.

The North section will be made up of thirteen seeded teams, one of which is Leicester City, and thirteen non-seeded opponents.

This means Leicester City will be drawn against one of the following teams:

Accrington Stanley
Bradford City
Bury
Carlisle United
Chesterfield
Crewe Alexandra
Darlington
Grimsby Town
Hartlepool United
Lincoln City
Macclesfield Town
Morecambe
Notts County
Port Vale
Rochdale
Rotherham United
Stockport County

Games are scheduled to be played during the week beginning Monday, August 10 2009.
