Pearson: “We Were By Far The Better Side”

Posted on: Mon 19 Oct 2009

Frustration was the name of the game in the City camp after this afternoon's goalless draw against Derby County at the Walkers Stadium.

The Foxes were clearly the better side but the visitors survived to get the point they seemed intent on getting with little appetite for taking the game to City.

Foxes boss, Nigel Pearson, said: "They probably got what they came for, so in that sense it is frustrating. We didn't ask enough questions of them I suppose but in terms of the overall 90 minutes I thought we were by far the better side and probably the only side trying to win it."

"It is frustrating but it is an illustration of what the Championship is all about, a tough league and like I said, I would expect us to win a game like that."

Rams boss, Nigel Clough, admitted his side struggled to cope with the physical presence and overall ability of City striker Steve Howard, recalled to the side, and Pearson said: "I was generally pleased with all the players. We created some good chances in the first half and got our rhythm going in the second but they worked hard to break the tempo up."

"Like I said, there is no doubt in my mind we were the better side but we have to take it on the chin and make sure we are ready for Tuesday."

That sees City take on Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace, but right now they can reflect on still being in 7th place and well in touch with the top six play-off frame.
