Wellens Expects Quality Clash

Posted on: Fri 30 Oct 2009

Leicester City midfielder, Richie Wellens, sees a few more grinding performances coming the team's way this season, but if they turn out like Monday night's win at Reading, everyone will be happy.

It was not a classic Foxes display, but it did the job, another three points to the cause, getting the club back into the play-off frame.

Wellens said: "If we are going to get where we want to be there are going to be four or five games like that. You see every year teams who play badly and win and it is a good sign. In the first half they could have had a few goals and we turned the ball over too many times. We gave it away too much."

City boss, Nigel Pearson, made a few changes again, including a first start for goal hero, Martyn Waghorn, who was then switched for Steve Howard, underlining the strength and depth of the squad and Wellens said: "Steve was different class when he came on, nearly got a goal and won his headers. We have got 18 or 19 players who can play in the first-team and he gets paid to make these decisions and we as players just do what we are asked to do."

What they will be asked to do next time up at Loftus Road on Friday is try for a second successive away win, but the Londoners are in fine form themselves, having come back from 2-0 down against Derby at Pride Park to take the points.

Wellens said: "They are a tough, organised team with good players. They have a couple who have played in the Premier League, they have a goal threat, but while we will set our stall out to defend, we are capable of scoring goals as well so it should be a good game."
