City not only pleased their fans with that Boxing Day triumph over Sheffield United yesterday but also left the Blades, one of their main rivals for the play-off frame, trailing in their wake.
Midfielder Richie Wellens appreciated the added value of the victory in that sense and said: "It was important to keep them away from us. If they had won they would have gone above us.
"To gain five or six points on a team in this league is quite difficult. You win one, you lose one, there is a lot of inconsistency."
"Now we are five points ahead of them and it gives us a bit of a cushion on them. Maybe we can get four or five wins on the bounce now."
Again the Foxes underlined their credentials as promotion challengers, especially commendable so soon after last season's step-up from League One.
Richie said: "With the size of the club, we should be there, but being just promoted makes it difficult".
"The club has worked hard, the players have worked hard to get up to this league and you don't want to go straight back down."
"However, with the players we have got, you have to be looking at the top six and if we can get a winning run then we have got every chance."
The City star returns to his former club Doncaster Rovers tomorrow, hoping for another three points before the break for FA Cup action at the Walkers on Saturday against Swansea City.
Speaking of the Rovers, Richie said: "They lost on Saturday but they had been on a good run. It is a good little club who are also looking to get into the play-offs.
"If we go there, we can be too strong for them. They play good football but we can dominate them set-piece-wise and we can get three points.
"Again, if we beat them then it gives us a good cushion over them as well and keeps a run going.
"The win would take a bit of intensity off the league and then we can concentrate on Swansea in the cup.
"The third round is always a special day in the calendar so it should be a good atmosphere and be enjoyable."
