Our Club Historian John Hutchinson has been hosting workshops at Snibston Discovery Park, collecting memories from fans prior to the big launch of our 125 exhibition on January 16th.

"The workshops have been really busy - I've been talking to fans all day long. We were recording their stories for the club's oral archive in the last one, and a lot of supporters have brought in memorabilia, some of which will form part of the exhibition," John deemed the series of events successful.

"The fan stories are great. For example, I met a lady who brought in her scrap book from the 1940s and recalled getting a last minute ticket to watch Leicester at Wembley in 1949 and knitting herself gloves on the way - there was no Megastore to buy them at these days!

"The scrap book had everything - pictures and newspaper articles, all signed by the players."

John has been a Foxes fan himself for 50 years and thoroughly enjoyed putting together the exhibition, which includes all the iconic City photographs, shirts and football boots from unbelievable matches, trophies and hidden gems from fans' private collections.

For example, Gary Lineker's World Cup shirt will be on display, as well as the 1937 King George VI Loving Cup.

"I became a Foxes fan in 1959. I lived near the ground, so I could hear and see people going to games when I was a little boy, but nobody in my family was really interested in football.

"However, I really wanted to go, so finally when I was 11, we went with my friends Noel and Alan - and we have been going together ever since.

"Four years ago, I read a story from the Leicester Mercury saying the club archive needs systemising and offered the club my help. I've been involved since and really enjoy it.

"Thanks to the help from the staff here at Snibston, particularly Rob and Sarah, I'm sure the exhibition is going to be a success," John told us.

The exhibition opens at Snibston Discovery Park on January 16. Keep an eye on www.lcfc.com for more details.
