Walshy: Snibston Exhibition Is Fascinating
Last weekend saw the launch of the Leicester City 125 exhibition "From Shed To Stadium" in cooperation with Snibston Discovery Museum.
Amongst the guests on the opening day was Steve Walsh, a true club legend who spent 14 years with City and is still closely attached to the club after the end of his professional playing career.
"This exhibition is truly fascinating," Walshy told lcfc.com. "It shows how far we have come as a club and is definitely worth visiting. I am honoured to be a part of this exhibition and I'm glad I came down, which also gave me the opportunity to talk to a few fans here at Snibston."
"I have a collection of memorabilia myself. It is old Preston programmes and things related to the club, as that's where I am from," Walshy revealed. One of the first artefacts he spotted to his surprise entering the exhibition area was a players' wives' headscarf - a rarity which he has recently bought himself. The limited item could be of high value decades after being produced.
Walshy is, naturally, included in City's all time Hall of Fame alongside other great players and managers - Martin O'Neill, Gary Lineker, Arthur Rowley and the like. He was astonished to notice a photo from the 1990s of him playing against current City boss Nigel Pearson with a number of other familiar faces in sight.
Did he think he'd be featured at such an exhibition during his playing days?
"You didn't spend much time thinking of the club's history during your playing days to be honest," he said. "Looking back now, I wish I had collected and kept every matchday programme and other significant items from my playing days to be able to look back, and also for occasions like this one."
The 125 exhibition at Snibston Discovery Museum in Coalville will remain open until mid-March and is free of charge for visitors. It features Gary Lineker's World Cup shirt, Johnny Duncan's football, a Hall of Fame, trophies, iconic photographs and much more.
