Weale Stars By The Seaside

Posted on: Mon 08 Feb 2010

Leicester City's first league win of 2010 at Blackpool on Saturday was based on an excellent defensive display at Bloomfield Road, and in particular City stopper Chris Weale.

The former Bristol City keeper produced a string of fine saves to help his team to their first away win since October.

The win moved Leicester ahead of Blackpool in the Championship table, but with the Seasiders' the fourth highest home goal scorers in the league Weale always expected a busy afternoon.

"You know you are going to have a lot to do. They are a good side on a decent run of form in terms of being up near the play-off positions so you know you are going to be busy, but that is why you train hard and hopefully reproduce it on match days."

Weale may have got most of the plaudits for his part in City's win but he was keen to praise his team mates for an excellent all round performance.

"I thought the back four were outstanding and the whole team as well. It was a good result and we got the win we needed. It is a tough place to come, they played some good football so it was a good three points for us."

Stephen Dobbie's late goal meant Weale was denied a second successive clean sheet, but the Foxes' keeper insists that winning was the most important thing.

"I am disappointed as the goalkeeper because we want to keep clean sheets but that is the way it goes, you can't save everything."

"It would have been nice for two clean sheets on the bounce, but we got the win with a half-decent performance."

Weale celebrates his 28th birthday tomorrow, but will put any celebrations on hold as he aims to help City record their eighth home win of the season.

"Yes, Tuesday is my birthday but I will not be thinking about it until after the game and the best present would be three points."
