Walsh: Formation Shows Intent

Posted on: Tue 09 Feb 2010

City's assistant manager Steve Walsh believes that Leicester's switch from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 formation shows that they are not interested in draws, as they aim to cement their place in the Championship's top six.

The Foxes have taken four points from two games against promotion rivals Newcastle United and Blackpool, and have done so using top scorer Matty Fryatt as the most central of three forwards.

A feature of both games has been the way City have pressurised their opponents right the way up the pitch. Walsh believes that a high tempo approach suits the Foxes.

"You play to your strengths and I think we need to go and get at teams. We've been playing three up front lately and that shows our intent."

City welcome Doncaster Rovers to the Walkers Stadium, with Sean O'Driscoll's side having lost their past four games, and Walsh believes Leicester are more than capable of making it five tonight.

"We've got to be proactive, it's about what we do that's important. I think we've got enough in our armoury to do well against them, so we're looking forward to the game."

The game against Rovers is the first of two home games, with Scunthorpe United to follow on Saturday before two away games next week. Walsh says City will play the same way regardless of whether they are home or away.

"We go out to win every game both home and away, we don't have a draw mentality at this club. It's nice to go and keep clean sheets but we like to try and take the game to them."
