City's Academy side were back in League action and back to winning ways when they beat Birmingham City 2-1 at home, thus maintaining their unbeaten League run.
It took a brilliant save from goalkeeper Robert Ambrusics early on to stop the visitors taking a surprise lead but from then on the home side played some good football and, after good work from Jorrin John, Adi Yussuf struck the opener.
Soon after, Elliott Chamberlain scored to give the home side a 2-0 lead at the break but the second half was a lot tighter, calling for stout defending with Liam Moore doing a good job in an unfamiliar central defensive role. The visitors did pull one back but City saw it through to the end.
Academy manager Jon Rudkin said: "Obviously it was a relief that we got a game under way at last, as it had been 12 December when we last had a game in the League. It was also good to get back to winning ways and put the FA Youth Cup defeat last month out of our minds. We were off and running again against a good Birmingham City team and it was a good test for us.
"Again we have players away on international duty. Shane Byrne and Kevin Knight have joined up with the Republic of Ireland Under-17 squad for games in Hungary so they will miss our midweek clash against MK Dons but should be back for our trip to Reading next Saturday."
