Since losing top scorer Matty Fryatt to injury a number of City's front men have stressed the need to "step up to the plate" in his absence.
The Foxes certainly did that on Saturday in a 5-1 demolition of Scunthorpe United at the Walkers Stadium. Leading the line was young striker Martyn Waghorn, who adapted to his new role brilliantly and capped his performance with an excellent goal.
Waghorn was pleased to make such an impression and says he is enjoying the role of lead striker.
"I feel I have done alright, I got a goal and the team got three points. I am excited, I'm enjoying it in the new role as the lead striker.
If I keep performing like that and scoring a few goals I will be more than happy. Matty is obviously a big loss to the team and if I can do half as well as him I will be alright."
Paul Gallagher was the star of Saturday's win as he netted his first career hat-trick, but Waghorn insists every member of the team should be proud of their effort against Scunny.
"Every player did well, not just as individuals but as a team. I think that is what we have been lacking. We have had good team performances but the goals haven't quite come.
Today was different, we scored early and we were relaxed, played a good passing game and did well."
City's display against Scunthorpe was doubly pleasing after they were frustrated against Doncaster in mid-week, it's the kind if display Waghorn believes Leicester have the capability to reproduce.
"We are capable enough of scoring goals but I think teams have seen how well we have done early on and come and try to shut us out.
Scunthorpe came to play an open game and it backfired on them. Obviously it was good to get the goals and if we had done this earlier in the season maybe we would have been higher up.
But we can't complain at how we are doing and if we keep playing like that, we will be flying."
