Pearson: We Controlled The Game

Posted on: Sun 14 Mar 2010

City boss Nigel Pearson praised his sides response to last week's defeat at struggling Sheffield Wednesday as they beat promotion rivals Cardiff City at the Walkers Stadium.

The three points put City five points clear of Dave Jones' side and seven clear of seventh spot and the Foxes' manager believes his team were the better side throughout.

"It was a good win. I thought we played well and we were in control of the game for the vast majority of it. I know it was a one-niller but in terms of how one-nillers go, it was relatively comfortable."

The victory could be a huge psychological boost for Pearson's side over their Welsh challengers, but the gaffer said it will take time before the implications of the victory become clear.

"We will reflect on it in a few weeks time but it was important we got a response from last week  which was disappointing. I keep saying how tough the League is and it was important we got a professional performance with a bit of energy and today we were worth the win."

The victory over Cardiff is Leicester's second consecutive home win over their promotion rivals following the 3-0 victory over Forest, and although there was a lot at stake against Forest, Pearson believes this performance was equally as impressive.

"People's perceptions of results generally are going to be changed by the number of goals that are scored. Today we played some good football, we were discilplined and it was a thoroughly professional performance. I thought there were some great performances out there."
